LOT DETAILS

Materials:

oil on canvas

Measurements:

Markings:

ALEXANDRE HYACINTHE DUNOUY

Condition:

The canvas has a very firm relining, the paint surface is clean, and the varnish is clear and even. There is a very slight degree of wear visible in the darker areas of the painting and retouching to the network of craquelure in the sky is just visible to the naked eye. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals the rather opaque varnish, beneath which it is possible to discern two apparent campaigns of restoration. One campaign consists of retouchings which fluoresce yellow and includes fine lines of retouching to the craquelure in the trees on the left and scattered in parts of the architecture on the right; it also comprises two lines, possibly to old tears, in the upper left corner, the longer of which measures 8 cm. long. The second campaign fluoresces darkly and consists of retouchings along the left-hand margin and some small spots scattered in the sky and in the architecture. The painting is in overall fairly good condition and is ready to hang in is current state. The lot is sold in the condition it is in at the time of sale. The condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot and is for guidance only.
